We didn't start in a glass-walled City of London office. We started with a childminder, a laptop, and a mission to fix finance for those who go it alone.
Thistle didn't start in a tech hub; it started at our kitchen table in Scotland.
I watched my wife work tirelessly as a childminder—providing amazing care all day, only to spend her evenings fighting with messy spreadsheets and clunky, expensive apps just to get paid. She couldn't find anything that was affordable, simple, and actually designed for someone running their own show.
I realized she wasn't alone. Whether you're a childminder, a gardener, or a graphic designer, being self-employed usually means you are the CEO, the worker, and the stressed-out accountant all at once.

My goal was simple: create the "Financial Brain" I wished she had. An app that is quick enough to use between jobs, beautiful enough to make you feel proud of your business, and affordable enough to actually make sense for the self-employed.
We're based in Scotland, building tools for the real experts—the makers, the doers, and the experts in our local communities. We handle the admin, so you can get back to what matters.
